Mountainbiking serves different purposes for everybody. However, what got me really hooked to the sport was the social aspect of it all. And while I spend a large part of my time training these days by myself, I still enjoy social MTB rides and trying to help out the local mountainbiking community. Back when I was living in Dunedin, I was a regular of the R&R Sport Weekly Womens MTB riding group. A bit later on, I also joined the Mountainbiking Otago committee, and along with Scotty, ran a few events while serving on the committee. Less than six months after moving to Wellington in February 2007, I found myself on the Makara Peak Supporters committee, and earlier this year, I joined the MTBing sub-committee of the Port Nicholson Poneke (PNP) Cycling Club.
So, after typing what probably reads as a "Cycling Community Involvement" resume, I think I'll spend the rest of this blog post mentioning a few of the things I'm involved in over the next month or so! Yes, it's probably a bit of self-promotion, but, hey, it's my blog! ;)
First event coming up is a Beginner Mountainbiking Skills course that I'm taking up on Makara Peak on Sunday the 19th October. This is part of the Push Play Month/Wellington Outdoors Festival.
Next up is the Makara Peak Supporters 10th Birthday Party on Saturday 1st November! This is looking like it's going to be a fun event with cake (mmm cake..), a BBQ, demo bikes, and fun activities all round. Should be a goodie!

And finally, after talking to a few women MTBers in Wellington, I've set up a mailing list for women MTBers (aptly called the Welly Women MTBers). More about it here, but basically the idea is to get women to join up to the list by emailing WellyWomenMTB-subscribe@yahoogroups.com and they can then send emails out to people on the list to organise social MTB rides. Hopefully the concept takes off, and we get a lot more women out on bikes! :)

So that's it from me for now! Hope to see some of you at the 10th birthday party! Bring your mates, family, loved ones, etc. Did I mention there'd be cake? Mmmmm cake....
Oh yeah. And I suppose since this is supposed to be about my "biking adventures", I went for a ride on my singlespeed this evening. Probably not the best time to head out for a ride though - was getting pretty dark under them trees towards the end!! Luckily I live only a stones-throw away from the trails, so it was a pretty quick trip home via the (slightly better lit) 4wd track. Phew!
